One of the most common questions we receive during the design process is, “Should we choose ivory or white linens?” While it may seem like a small detail, the color of your table linens can completely change the overall feel of your reception and even how your wedding photographs.
The good news? Neither option is right or wrong. The best choice depends on the atmosphere you want to create, your venue, your lighting, and the rest of your design elements.
White Linens: Bright, Crisp, and Timeless
White linens are the classic choice for a reason. They create a fresh, clean foundation that allows every design element, from florals to candles to dinnerware, to stand out.
In photographs, white linens reflect a significant amount of light, making your reception feel bright and airy. They work especially well in modern venues, ballrooms, and spaces filled with natural light. If you’re envisioning a clean, editorial aesthetic with bold contrast between your décor and the tabletop, white linens are a beautiful option.
However, there is one thing many couples don’t realize: pure white linens can sometimes photograph with cool or bluish undertones, particularly in shaded outdoor settings, under LED lighting, or depending on your photographer’s white balance settings. While this can absolutely be corrected during editing, it’s one reason why white linens don’t always appear as warm and inviting in photos as they do in person.

This is one reason you’ll often see ivory linens featured in luxury weddings and editorial shoots, they add warmth while allowing every design element to shine.

The biggest difference between ivory and white is usually only noticeable when they’re placed directly next to one another.
On their own, ivory linens often appear nearly white in photographs, especially in natural daylight. It’s only when they’re paired beside bright white elements that you’ll notice their subtle warmth.
White linens create more contrast and can make surrounding colors appear slightly brighter, while ivory linens soften the overall palette, producing a more romantic and inviting feel. Neither is better—it simply depends on the mood you’re trying to create.

If you’re dreaming of a romantic, European-inspired, garden, or candlelit celebration, ivory linens often create a warmer, more luxurious atmosphere that feels timeless rather than trendy.
